Can you cut and paste some of this thread to the forum?  It is a subject
that comes up and detail as to "reasoning" about how to handle it is
helpful.  Sounds like you and Damon have experience that others may not
have.

This is true.  That's why it is important to use Graffiti Busters.  My
understanding is that they log the tag and use it to prosecute offenders
when they're caught.  I've been tagged several times, and the first two
times I called and reported it to the police, but they never showed up to
look at it, they just took info down over the phone and suggested I call GB.


I noticed some vile crap sprayed on my neighbors wall again today, on
Virginia between Dayton and 11th.  I hope they catch the jerks.

Even if there is no suspect, you must file a report. Here's why: 

 

When the police apprehend a graffiti vandal, they find out what tag they use
when defacing public/private property. Then they try to find other reports
from THEIR precinct that include that same tag. There might only be 2
reports with photos of that same tag. Then they search reports from other
precincts. If another precinct has 5 reports with the matching graffiti
symbols, the vandal now has 7 instances of vandalism.

 

Now let's say a juvenile is picked up for skipping school, and this is the
fifth time they've done it. An officer notices a marking on one of their
books that looks like a graffiti tag they saw in several photos attached to
reports. There is now a trail of evidence that can be used to prosecute the
vandal.

 

This was explained to me by the president of the Nile Neighborhood
Association, the other area in which I have a house. I appreciate further
comments on how this works.
