rodent control suggestions

I have mice.  yes plural.  
maybe a rat?! I want to call a pest control, but I don't want to pay out the rear for it.  
I have baited and caught and put poison out, but I am being very weary about the poison I have dogs.  (It is where the dogs CANNOT GET TO IT THOUGH)  But still weary...

any recomendations, they did do an inspection before I bought the house, and would this be covered under the warranty?
