Those interested in downtown.
"The Next Big Step" relates to the "Phoenix Urban Form Project". Steve
Procaccini and I have been working as Coronado residents with other historic
neighborhoods to have the street lights along McDowell Road become a
historic signature street for the historic neighborhoods. The word recently
from the City was that our proposals were well received by Historic
Preservation and by Streets Transportation. The urban form project was
extended to include McDowell Road but lies at the boundary. We are
encouraged to make sure that there is a spotlight on McDowell Road so that
it is actively included in this plan. Steve and I will keep you posted as
to progress and general meetings where neighborhood support would be
welcomed.

Please note that anything that comes from me to the discussion list that is
a forward will state so in the subject line.

The Next Big Step!
Now that USU Downtown is open, what's next in the ongoing transformation of
our Downtown? A very big part of the next step will be the development of a
new set of Downtown Master Plans to insure the city's vision of creating a
shady, pedestrian friendly, 24/7 live/work environment will be achieved.
These plans will be developed as a result of the "Downtown Phoenix Urban
Form Project". At a 'kick-off" event in June at the Orpheum Theatre, Mayor
Phil Gordon announced the selected consultant, Dyett and Bhatia of San
Francisco, will head up the project. The firm has been involved in extensive
"Downtown" projects, including San Diego, Portland, Chicago, Sacramento,
Oakland & Milwaukee. The Project/Study will include a Public Participation
Plan which will be utilized throughout the process. It will also include
Downtown Design Guidelines, a Circulation Master Plan, a Public Art Master
Plan, Public Spaces/Connectors Master Plan, an adoptable ordinance that
includes all the needed code changes and an implementation plan with
timeline and measurement tools. The project is now underway, with expected
completion near the end of 2007. If you would like to be involved or kept
"up-to-date" with project status and meeting notifications or have general
comments or questions, contact Dean Brennan at 602-262-4499
(dean.brennan at phoenix.gov) or Shawn-Marie Vaughn at 602-495-5740
(shawn.vaughn at phoenix.gov).

Buzz on FEZ
If you're anything like me, you've been wondering what FEZ stands for
because F.E.Z is hardly an acronym for Food, Drinks, and Music like the sign
on 3815 N Central Ave would have me to believe-I was totally off! They meant
Fez, as in the Moroccan city- This place is definitely urban, trendy,
unpretentious and conducive to chilling. The menu takes creative twists with
traditional Moroccan flavors. To start I ordered the Bruschetta appetizer
and a cup of the Cumin Cinnamon Carrot soup. What I received, was a
beautiful platter full of herbed karisa flat bread, toasted baguettes, and
three tasty spreads, tomato & onion jam, pesto & artichoke spread. The soup
was lick-the-bowl-yummy and the waiter was only too happy to bring me a
taste of the equally fresh Tomato Lentil soup. We also ordered the Tangier
burger -Hummus, Pesto, Oven Dried Tomatoes, Red Onions & Manchego Cheese on
Ciabatta and the Lamb Kisra - lamb, tomatoes, spinach, feta & lemon basil
dressing, all on a large round herbed Kisra flat bread plus a serving of the
cinnamon dusted sweet potato fries served with an Apricot Aioli- The drinks
are equally fun and innovative- My daughter was only too excited to try a
virgin version of the Pomegranate Margaritas and my buddy Joe-a local
bartender was ecstatic over his Orange Citrus "you can taste the alcohol in
this!" Margarita- and I was pleased to find a new favorite Mojo Martini
w/extra mint! Salaam aleikom! (Peace to you.) By Portland Ramirez

pe=1&h=0D5610E13544FCB3CB7B82B54EAA104A> A Law School is
coming to Downtown Phoenix this Fall! The Phoenix International School of
Law, currently holding classes in Scottsdale, will bring an expected 150
students to their new location on the southeastern corner of Indian School
Road and Central Avenue. The school is the state's only Law School to offer
evening classes and part-time programs, in addition to a full-time
curriculum. The goal of moving downtown is to be more accessible to working
professionals who want to attend law school.

Phoenix from 1870 to 1975. The survey identifies the # and locations of
