FW: Construction and Event Update

There is a lot of activity occuring in the Copper Square area, including
some significant changes related to light rail construction.  Listed below
is a summary of construction activity scheduled for the next week: 

 

FRIDAY, AUGUST 18

Light Rail - Intersections Open!

Central Ave / Washington, and 1st  / Jefferson streets are scheduled to open
around 4pm today.  Progress!!

2 lanes will be maintained on Central during peak traffic hours; 1 lane
during non-peak hours.

 

Sheraton

Beginning 7pm Friday through 12pm Saturday, 3rd Street between Van Buren and
Fillmore will be closed to help facilitate a large concrete pour for the
Sheraton Hotel.  Also, Taylor between 2nd and 3rd, and Pierce between 3rd
and 4th streets will be closed during this time.  Approximately 100 cement
trucks will be staged for this activity.

    Helpful Tip: To avoid this closure, use 1st, 2nd or 7th streets to
travel southbound.  Arizona Center will be open and accessible throughout
this activity - use 5th Street to access the parking garage.

 

MONDAY, AUGUST 21

Light Rail - Track Installation

1st Ave / Jefferson - intersection will be restricted for track
installation.  Southbound 1st Ave. will be directed to head eastbound on
Jefferson Street, and eastbound Jefferson traffic will be directed
southbound on 1st Avenue.  Crossing through the intersection will be
prohibited.  This restriction is expected to be in place through
late-September. 

    Helpful Tip:  To avoid these restrictions, use 7th Ave. or 4th St. to
reach destinations south of Jefferson; or Jackson, Lincoln or Van Buren to
travel east of 1st Avenue.   

 



 

 

1st St / Washington - 1st Street will be closed on the north side of
Washington through mid-September.   

    Helpful Tip:  Use Central Ave. to travel north or 2nd St. to travel
south during this time.

 



 

 

THURSDAY, AUGUST 24

Light Rail

4th Street - 4th St. will be closed on the south side of Jefferson from 5am
- 3pm for trenching activities.

 

3rd Street - 3rd St. (currently closed on the south side of Jefferson) will
be open to allow for the 4th Street closure and scheduled weekend events.
3rd street will close again Sunday evening and remain closed through
late-September.
