The AHS is holding an essay contest to find these two adorable pups a new
home. 

Two older dogs who were rescued from a home where their owners passed away
are eager to "retire" with a new, loving family.  The Arizona Humane Society
is hoping a plea to the public and an adoption essay contest will help find
the perfect home for this special pair.   

An AHS Emergency Animal Medical TechnicianT (EAMT) found "Pepe" and "Chochi"
on July 21 when responding to a call about a dead dog in the backyard of a
home near 24th Street and McDowell.  Upon arrival, the EAMT discovered the
deceased dog in the yard and also noticed an ominous odor coming from the
home.  Suspecting a much graver situation, the EAMT called the Phoenix
Police Department for assistance.  Sadly, they discovered that the elderly
couple residing in the home had passed away up to a week before and their
two remaining dogs were still inside the home, hungry, thirsty and scared.
"Pepe" and "Chochi" were immediately taken to the AHS' Sunnyslope facility
until their owners' next of kin could be located.  Unfortunately, their
owners' family could not care for them so they surrendered the dogs to the
AHS. 

Now, these special dogs are ready to begin a new life with a new family who
will care for them until the end of their days.  "Pepe" is a very pleasant,
neutered male Chihuahua mix and is believed to be approximately 15 years
old.  His best friend, "Chochi," is a friendly, 10-year-old neutered male
Beagle mix.  Both are in good health for their ages and have charming
personalities.  Their perfect home is a quiet, mellow home with little
activity and frequent cuddling.  "Pepe" and "Chochi" will get along with
mature children over the age of 12 and they seem to like other dogs, but an
introduction at the Shelter will be required.   Furthermore, they are "Best
Buddies" meaning they MUST go home together.  

In order to find just the right home for the pair, the AHS is holding an
essay contest for interested adopters.  "Due to the fact that the two people
who knew them best have passed away, we'd like the opportunity to screen
prospective adopters in order to make the absolute best possible match for
these dogs," says Adoptions Manager Nancy Blabe.  Directions for prospective
adopters:

*	Using one page or less, write an essay describing why your home is
perfect for "Pepe" and "Chochi".

*	Entries must include your name, address, daytime phone number and a
description of each family member in the household, including other pets.

*	Mail completed essays to the Arizona Humane Society, Adoptions
Manager, 1521 W. Dobbins Rd., Phoenix, AZ  85041.

*	Entries must be postmarked by 5:00 p.m. September 1

*	Family photos are encouraged!
