And while I'm on the subject.... : )
In an effort to keep my architect friend's good name, the fact that the
plans came back from the City many times does not indicate any problems
with the idea of the demonstration home in the eyes of the City or lack
of competence in my friend's firm.
The problems the City had, which in turn caused my architect friend to
pull out tufts of well-loved hair was that the city was considering
this project a COMMERCIAL one and was requiring all sorts of upgrades
to make the house inline with commercial codes. Some of the battles
included whether or not FSL would have to retrofit the house with a
commercial sprinkler system throughout. Headaches for FSL and Jerry, to
be sure.
Also, the pedestrian circulation for the house was to be from the FSL
parking lot to the west. That was how it was presented to us. Although,
certainly it was going to have a front door so anyone could have
entered the facility from Edgemont. I do believe that pedestrian access
from their parking lot was their intent since parking would certainly
be easier for them in their parking lot after we placed a Resident Only
Permit Program on the north side of Edgemont several years ago (no
non-resident parking without a permit from 8am to 5pm) which would
cause them lots of parking problems with their guests.
I wouldn't jump to too many conclusions here just yet, they've been
fairly open with us about what they wanted to do and I have had an
insider's view of the process since it started and just at this point,
nothing seems too far out of line from what I have known.
