Pam, Thank you SO MUCH for giving me (us) your perspective on the situation on FSR. There would be no need whatsoever for them to preserve a building unless it was -legally-required to do so, either with the stipulation or an HP overlay, and they would have to have a demo permit to do so and that would have taken these things into consideration.
I think we should be somewhat sensitive to getting ALL the facts instead of just rallying everyone immediately to keep a close scrutinizing eye on a foundation that assists our elders. When you deal with the City, 1000 things can happen and usualy do. Its confusing and difficult and hard for anyone to do, expecially to get to the finish line

I know the architect on the that job, I will call him and ask him what gives. He lives over on Coronado, in the confines of the 'hood.
The plan was to remodel the house to be a demo lab to show families of seniors how to care for them and how to use handicapped features or which ones would be most useful.
As of the last time I spoke to the architect, perhaps 2 months ago or so, that plan was still in play. We here in South Country Club Manor were okay with what was happening ( at least those I spoke to ) in that the house would be kept as a house, and if FSL ever were to lose their enchantment with it, it could be sold as a house.
They spent A LOT of time on those plans as they came back from the the City several times, so I know it wasn't a trick. I was in the office when one of the many redlines had arrived and the architect showed me the plan. They also spent a lot of time and effort in finding a contractor who would deal with a remodel, as they were interested in Gene in bidding.
However, all that does not mean they didn't take advantage of an unexpected change in their plans.
I was just as surprised as you all when I walked by yesterday to see the house lying in a pile of crumpled debris.
