Wayne, I think it illustrates your point very well. I was beyond shocked to
see that building gone - and I learned a big lesson today.

I think that this illustrates the point I was trying to make earlier.
We seemed to have been the polite ones in this situation. It is very
difficult to "make certain that traffic and preservation stipulations.were
adhered to", when it is to those whom are moving ahead with an agenda are
not. "accidentally damaged".
Commitment on the part of the City obtains the responsibility that they
should have in these situations.

To the Neighborhood:
As many of you may recall, GCNA supported a special use permit for this
property for the Foundation for Senior Living to use it as a training
facility, conditioned on there being no vehicular access off Edgemont and
that the building be preserved intact. In my visits to City Hall last week,
I found that the preservation was never included in the stipulations, and
that the site plan had been approved with Edgemont vehicular access, in
violation of the stipulations. Nevertheless, the approved site plan did
show the historic structure still standing.
This past Monday, the Foundation was scheduled to demolish a newer addition
on the rear of the building in preparation for an expansion. I heard from
the City mid week that in the process of that partial demolition the
building as a whole was "accidentally damaged" and might have to be razed.
Sure enough, I drove by today and they have razed it to the slab.
Obviously, none of us is in a position to know exactly what led to the
demolition.
For whatever reason, the neighborhood association did not follow through to
make certain that traffic and preservation stipulations were included and
adhered to. Even though that historic building is now permanently gone, I
would like all of you in the neighborhood to know that going forward we will
pay the closest attention to what happens to that property and go to every
length to make certain that the Foundation first and foremost respects and
preserves the residential and historic character of the neighborhood of
which they are now - for better or worse - a part.
Thanks much,
Tyler Storey
