The 12th/Oak roundabout remains "on hold," awaiting utility relocation scheduled for two weeks out. Once that is finished, the Streets Transportation department estimates it will take another four more weeks to complete the project. (Their idea of "complete" doesn't include art, so we--as a neighborhood--still need to figure that one out.
What happened to the Virginia plan? Word is that it took some time for city staff to figure out and find monies for the project. But they did it. The city estimates that construction will begin on Virginia in late spring 2007. Monthly updates will be coming your way, so stay tuned. Public arts says "yes," they are definitely in on this one.
Speed table on 13th Street near Coronado Park: The traffic committee has done the legwork, and we are now awaiting the final signature/petition form to try one speed "table" on 13th near Granada. Speed tables are not the norm. But if it works well for us, speed tables may be added to the Streets Transportation "toolbox," adding another option to the traditional hump to address speeding problems on local streets. (Just ask if you want more info on speed tables. Wayne loves to share pictures and weblinks to info.)
More traffic solutions are underway in this year's Fight Back Southwest. If you live from Oak south to I-10, and from 7th east to 16th Street: the FBSW meets the third Wednesday of every month. Plan to attend next Wednesday: July 19th, 6-7 pm, Emerson School Media Room, Palm and 10th Street.
In the meanwhile, drive safely.
