Subject: Dear Art Lovers: a letter from David Seacord

  Dear Art Lover,

Greetings. My name is David Seacord and I am a contemporary fine art painter. I call my paintings "abstract impressions from the natural and spiritual world". Being fairly new to Phoenix, I am writing with the intention of sharing with you a bit about myself personally, and how that relates to my art. If that also assists you to a greater access of my paintings, that would also be a good result.

Fundamentally, my intention in painting is simply to be a creator of beauty in the world. I wish to create images which present and call forth the entire range of human emotional aliveness, to express perspectives that bring freshness to the familiar, that provide cultural access to normally unfelt sensitivities.

Personally, it seems I have not followed the normal path to becoming 'a professional painter'. I did not go to any formal art school, but I have known since I was a youth that someday, I would be 'a painter'. As a young man, I developed a deep attunement to nature by spending 11 wonderful summers employed as a US Forest Service Fire Lookout in several different wilderness areas of Oregon and Idaho, and there in my 'seasonal hermitages', I expressed my artistic creativity by sketching wilderness landscapes, photography, carving stone, playing my guitar, and doing a whole lot of deep wilderness off-trail exploring. These summers form the backbone of my inner connection to nature, and are an evident empowerment to my work as an artist. Eventually however, to meet the practical necessities of the world and make a living, I became a well-trained piano tuner, fortuitously settling down and building a business in Santa Fe, New Mexico. From that base, I begin to meet visual artists often. The artistic influences of Eyvind Earle, Merrill Mahaffey, Julian Sibony, Christopher Lange, and Carolina Gentry all reached my life because I was first their piano tuner. They and many other lesser known artists would take me into their studios after the tuning was done, and I would be 'all questions', their answers often staying with me to this day. In the same manner, I was given access to many wonderful private home art collections, the owners of which were almost always delighted to lead a tour for their piano tuner, explaining to me many distinctions of art appreciation. These experiences, plus simply living in Santa Fe, New Mexico over a 26 year period, with all its art and cultural events, museums, galleries, and art classes... this natural absorption process was my artistic training. Today, I look at my earlier works with fondness and appreciation, yet it is whatever current artistic edge that I am presently challenged with that is always calling me to my passion about painting: to be the very best version of David Seacord the painter that I can possibly be.

To date, I believe I have completed nearly 600 paintings. I would love to paint 6000 in this lifetime, God willing. Currently I have a lot of paintings--my best paintings-- that I would love to present (and sell) to the world, and so I am now inviting you to come and have a fresh look. Why now and not later? Well, one reason is we are moving away for a while, for family reasons primarily, and we are therefore closing this studio after this Friday's open house. Given that, another reason is because I am doing my best to make my prices as low as possible for this one event, in case you might want to buy art. It's a '50% or more off' night on over 50 really nice pieces. This is not to say they will be 'nearly free' (actually the sale prices range from $250 up to $5000), but for the quality of art you'll be getting, in my opinion, they are great deals! So please do come by and visit a while, Sarah and I would love to visit with you, and the other 'company' on the walls is worth keeping too....

Our open house hours are 6-10 pm, Friday, July 7th, and yes, you can make an appointment to come early if you want (but we pack it all up the next day, so don't be late). Our studio address is 830 N. 10th Ave., Phoenix, and our phone is 602-253-9687.

Blessings, and hope to see you...

  David Seacord (and Sarah Brown)
